WHO MAY ENTER:  Any Traditional Shotokan practitioner or person who is recommended by a JKA dojo Chief Instructor.

 

TIME:

COSTS:

Individual:

Black/Brown Belt Adult - 1 event $35; 2 events $55; 3 or more events $65
White/Green Belt Adult - 1 event $25; 2 events $40
Under 18 (any rank) - 1 event $25; 2 events $40

Team: Any rank or age - $45 per team event

There will be a $10 LATE FEE for any individuals and/or teams registering after this date.

REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:

Preregister by mail or email. Please make sure that you include your club name and instructor contact information. Each participant must have an entry for name, rank, age, sex, desired events and fee.

CHECK-IN & RELEASE FORMS:

Upon arrival at the tournament, all contestants must check in at the registration table. No contestant will be registered without signing a release form.

UNIFORM & PROTECTIVE GEAR:              

White traditional karate-gis only. Mouth guards and JKA style fist protectors (white, naugahyde cover) required for free sparring. Groin protectors recommended. No other protective gear allowed.  No eyeglasses (except sports safety goggles) allowed.

 

PAYMENT OF FEES:

Include with registration materials or when you arrive. Cash or check payable to: UConn Karate Club. Please do not send anything by registered mail or any other system where we are required to sign for the package (we end up getting it later than the regular mail).

JUDGES & TOURNAMENT HELPERS:

Judges (must class at least class “D” JKA judge certification), score keepers, timers, etc. are needed. Please let us know if people from your club can help out.

ADULT DIVISION (Ages 18 & up)

Senior (Age 50 & up) Black Belt Men – Free Sparring

·       Note: Senior competitors may also compete in the regular black belt events. 

·       A women’s senior division will be held if enough participants indicate interest at least 2 weeks in advance.

No limit to number of kata teams in each category.
Teams composed of all children (age 13 and under) will get separate awards.


DIRECTIONS TO TOURNAMENT - Tyl Middle School, Oakdale CT

FROM NEW HAVEN (45 minutes): I-95 North to exit 76 (I-395 North - a left exit). Follow I-395 North and take exit 79. Turn right off the exit. Travel 3.0 miles and turn left on Chesterfield Rd. Proceed up hill ˝ mile to stop sign. Go straight through intersection and turn left into Leonard J. Tyl Middle School. Go straight to upper parking lot. Follow steps to main entrance.

FROM BOSTON (2 hours): Mass Pike I-90 West to I-395 South. Take exit 79 (not 79A). Turn right off the exit. Travel 2.5 miles and turn left on Chesterfield Rd. Proceed up hill ˝ mile to stop sign. Go straight through intersection and turn left into Leonard J. Tyl Middle School. Go straight to upper parking lot. Follow steps to main entrance.

FROM HARTFORD (45 minutes): Route 2 East to Norwich and I-395 South. Take exit 79 (not exit 79A). Turn right off the exit. Travel 2.5 miles and turn left on Chesterfield Rd. Proceed up hill ˝ mile to stop sign. Go straight through intersection and turn left into Leonard J. Tyl Middle School. Go straight to upper parking lot. Follow steps to main entrance.

FROM RHODE ISLAND (45 minutes from state line): I-95 South to Gold Star Bridge. Take Route 32 Exit and follow 32 North for 4.5 miles. Turn left at stop light onto 163 North. Follow for 3.5 miles and turn left on Chesterfield Rd. Proceed up hill ˝ mile to stop sign. Go straight through intersection and turn left into Leonard J. Tyl Middle School. Go straight to upper parking lot. Follow steps to main entrance.
